Jack and Annie discover a mysterious tree house filled with books, then find themselves in the age of dinosaurs. Mary Pope Osborne keeps the chapters short, the language approachable, and the suspense moving, giving emerging readers a strong introduction to chapter books. The story can launch a homeschool unit on dinosaurs, fossils, prehistoric habitats, or the difference between fiction and scientific evidence.

It also works well as a read-aloud for younger siblings. Children who connect with the adventure can continue through the Magic Tree House series, building reading stamina through familiar characters and a predictable story structure.

A go-to first chapter book for homeschool reading and dinosaur unit studies.
